We went for a Sunday roast. It was fantastic!Fantastic food, fantastic service, friendly people not just staff but everyone. Very nice atmosphere, we’ll be going again very soon.

Had a lovely one night stay here last week with my mum whilst walking the Two Moors Way. The family room was incredibly spacious, very comfortable and had an amazingly powerful fan which we needed with the heatwave! Tasty dinner in the bar, and Alex was very helpful with providing us with a delicious home made packed lunch (very reasonable) for the next day. Rachel was a wonderful host and looked after us very well over breakfast and staff on check in were also very friendly and helpful. Couldn’t fault it! Thank you 🙂

Sunday roast was excellent, great atmosphere, great service very welcoming

Local for a week Popped in for a quick one on our first night of holiday. Served by Seb. Lovely bloke, clocked our SEN son and was very supportive of him. Had Sunday lunch, by heck that was an experience. So much food. An experience to behold. Must be tried to be believed.
The ale was excellent and it was tried every day!!!
Had lunch on our last day with friends and it was just excellent.
Seb is a good host and a visit is necessary if visiting Witheridge.

Stayed on my way walking Two Moors Way as couldn’t find any accommodation in Knowstone. Food very good, room very good. Offered pack lunch in lieu of breakfast as I was leaving early, which is a nice touch.Would recommend the ploughman’s lunch even if you’re not staying.

We were staying locally, and The Mitre Inn came highly recommended, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.My partner is gluten free, and she honestly said it was one of the best gluten free meals she’s had in a long time. It’s so refreshing to find somewhere that doesn’t just cater for dietary requirements, but does it exceptionally well. The food was fantastic, and the owners were incredibly welcoming. They went out of their way to make sure we were looked after and that my partner could enjoy a lovely meal without any worries.The only downside is that we live so far away, because this would easily become our local. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Mitre Inn and will definitely return if we’re ever back in the area.

Popped in for dinner very friendly barman ,we had lasagne and salad it was really good delicious. Very dog friendly a great experience thanks .

I am holidaying on my own just outside Witheridge main village and spotted “seafood night” was on….I asked via messenger if I could reserve a table for just 1 and pre order the dish (with a slight amendment i wanted to make to the main mea I wanted to prevent my disappointment on my behalf if they ran out.I had instant responses to my messages and was assured no problem to all I asked for.I was seated in the snug which was really lovely, the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were really friendly and helpful.Would definitely recommend

Cannot recommend highly enough We’d had a long day, journeying from Kent coast to start our holiday and we wanted somewhere close by to eat. An ordinary looking pub on a village main street. The food and service was, however, far from ordinary. Excellent food, totally delicious. We all had something different and yet chef managed to get all dishes out at the same time, piping hot. Service and atmosphere very welcoming In fact, we are going back for our last night dinner…. can’t wait

Atmosphere was very friendly. Landlord was a credit to the pub. Service was excellent, food was fantastic. The steak n ale pie was so full of steak, no room for the gravy. It came separately in its boat! Like all good pub pies should be. Big slice of homemade joy. Not a flakey lid on slop. This was pure pleasure!

This is a lovely pub to go to. The experience started with a very friendly greeting on arrival, the food was amazing and for those with dogs they are dog friendly and even have a dog menu. I would highly recommend this pub, we will definitely be going there again.

I was invited to a Sunday lunch in the village of Witheridge – Devon, such a great lovely village, very quiet, we had Sunday lunch in The Mitre Inn, walked in, greeted by lovely dog old golden retriever, he was very quiet and calm dog. Had nice pork roast with crackling and all the trimmings.

I went with my dear friend Sue for Sunday lunch. It was so nice to have homemade food. Molly was so lovely, they all were. Great place, great food and definitely on the books for return visits. Thank you 🙏

Kind Hosts, Quirky Charm, and Golden Retriever Cuddles What an absolute gem of a pub! From the moment we arrived, the owners made us feel completely at home — truly some of the kindest people you could ever meet. Their warmth and genuine hospitality made the evening so special. The pub itself is full of character, with a quirky interior that makes every corner worth a look — the kind of place that feels both unique and completely comfortable at the same time. We enjoyed a relaxed evening of drinks, soaking up the atmosphere and chatting away while their two adorable golden retrievers wandered over for cuddles. They were the sweetest dogs and added so much charm to the evening! Everything about our visit was spot on — great drinks, lovely company, and that warm, content feeling you only get in the very best countryside pubs. Couldn’t recommend it more highly. If you’re ever in Devon, make sure you pop in — you’ll leave grinning (and probably wishing you could take the dogs home with you!).

An excellent and great value place to stay in Witheridge. The room was very comfortable and clean and exceptionally quiet. The Mitre Burger in the bar was delicious and clearly it is a popular spot in the village. A really good cooked breakfast too and great coffee! Thank you

We had a most pleasant overnight stay here in a clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was very good and the staff were so friendly and attentive. We also enjoyed our evening meal. The steak and red wine pie was very popular!

Great classic pub decor with plenty of character. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming and accommodating to dogs and babies. Would highly recommend this pub.

Beautiful roast dinner with an excellent and very friendly service. The portions were generous with an array of vegetables. One of the very best pub Sunday roasts I’ve eaten. Would highly recommend.

We ate on a mid-week evening, a party of five. Delicious cooking (incl fish and chips, and hake with mussels). Relaxed courteous service. Recommend strongly!

Great atmosphere Great pint

Our stay at the mitre in was amazing. The staff are fabulous and make you feel at home. We stayed because we were going to a local funeral . The wake also was at the Mitre Inn and they pulled out all the stops for the family and friends who were there. The food was better than most restaurants and really cared about any special food requirements. We would highly recommend a stay there

Perfect place to stay, have a meal or just a drink. Stayed here for two nights. Just a fantastic place to stay. Great interior and rooms. Everyone was really welcoming and helpful. Great meals in the evening and a really good breakfast. The snug is the perfect place for a small group to hang out and the bar had great selection of tunes playing.

We walked here from Coleford. The weather was getting very warm on our two moors walk and we looked like we would arrive after the pub closed for the afternoon. We phoned ahead and the chap agreed to hang around until we arrived. He was true to his word (a total and utter star) and the night’s stay was really good. There was a great choice of gluten free options for both evening dinner and breakfast.

Great service, good food From the first warm, friendly response on the phone, the Mitre was a great place to visit. A ramp was made available for my partner in a wheelchair,cand appropriate seating in the bar.
Service was good, atmosphere welcoming, and food delicious. Would happily recommend.

6 of us stayed the night at this beautiful Inn . The evening menu was absolutely wonderful, real homed made food. Everyone had something different and all agreed it was fab. Breakfast was top notch too. The pub is very homely and welcoming.

A fabulous Sunday lunch We stopped off at The Mitre Inn as we happened to be passing. Hadn’t booked a table and they were obviously very busy (Sunday lunchtime) but they were very accommodating and offered us a table in the snug. We enjoyed the most delicious Sunday roast, nicely presented, very generous dish of vegetables and lovely Yorkshire pudding. Even though we were full we couldn’t resist a pudding! I had the cheesecake which was lush and my husband had the warm apple cake- he said it was so light and was the best apple cake he’s ever had. Compliments to the chef. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and it was very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back!

We were at the Mitre Inn for a family meal whilst on holiday in Exmoor. We received a very warm and friendly welcome from the staff, who were also very attentive throughout. The food itself was delicious and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning next time we are in the area!

Sunday Lunch A friendly welcome and a lovely fire in the bar. Delicious Sunday lunch which was hot and had real flavour. There was a variety of 5 different vegetables and the roast potatoes were crispy and soft in the middle. We had a variety of meats and they were all tender. The portions were generous. My vegetarian friend said it was the best nut roast she’d ever had! The desserts were just as good as the main meal.

Went to have lunch here with my wife and 2 kids. It was absolutely lovely. The service was outstanding, and the food I have nothing else to say it was amazing. The owners are lovely people and made sure my kids, wife and myself feel accompanied with open arms. I would highly recommended this place will be going back very soon. Don’t miss out l!!!

Had a really good Sunday lunch here. Proper job! Beautifully prepared vegetables and plenty of perfectly cooked beef & lamb. Generous portions but not overwhelming. Lovely sitting in the bar area with the wooodburning fire too !

Lunch with friends. Excellent Sunday lunch and fantastic service. The pub is full of character and is beautiful. If we are in the area I would not hesitate to go back.

Lovely lunch We visited on New Year’s day for lunch (we had reserved a table). We had a friendly welcome, the staff were very accommodating and there was a great choice of food, which was amazing – it well presented and tasty.

Met up with our friends again this year at the Mitre inn for a two night stay absolutely fantastic Andy,Barbara and all the staff are brilliant, the food is home cooked and delicious and the real ales are very well kept thank you all for another brilliant time.Paul, Mike, Steve, Kath, June, Qwen.

Amazing Just spent another two nights at the Mitre where we meet up with our friends Andy, Barbara and all the staff are true professionals the food is lovely and all home cooked the steak I had was cooked to perfection and the Xmas lunch was amazing thank you all for a lovely time.

Warm and friendly! Stayed there on a sunday night whilst visiting a friend in the area, everything was brilliant, all the staff were so friendly and could not have been more friendly, the room was very clean and well appointed.
i ate in the the very cosy bar and had the handmade game pie, was exceptional, washed down with 2 pints of very well kept local ale.
I cannot fault the Mitre, will definitely be back, Thank you.

Lunch in Restaurant The manage to fit us in at midday, most tables were reserved. The roast beef was very tasty and locally sourced. Service was excellent. Staff polite, friendly and very helpful with my fat free diet. My friend had the lamb. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Thank you to Barbara, Andy and the rest of the team for looking after me on my first holiday away on my own to visit my friend in this lovely part of Devon. The room I stayed in was clean and cosy, and reasonably priced for myself as a solo traveller considering breakfast was included. The cooked breakfasts were excellent with a range of cereal choices also included. My friend who I was visiting, and I, didn’t always eat at the Mitre while I was staying there but when we did we found the food to be lovely, reasonably priced and were suprised by the range of options considering it is a village pub. My friend appreciated the range of vegetarian choices and enjoyed the vegan ice cream. If I am back this way in the future, I would definetely stay at the Mitre Inn again. Thank you!

A pub with atmosphere and character fantastic food and comfortable accommodation it’s all here. We had roast lunch here in the summer it was so good we came back to stay for 1 night with 6 friends and had a lovely 5 mile walk around the area. Everyone said the evening meal was superb above and beyond most restaurants we finished the evening in the bar with cocktails. Breakfast was equally as good . The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable . This pub has a lot of character and everyone works hard to keep it running well. You won’t be disappointed if you eat or stay overnight.

Had a lovely meal and a drink after a full day on the moors, burger was massive and cooked to perfection. We got there early evening which I would recommend as it is small but popular and was starting to get busy as we left

Delicious Sunday roast.

Charming village pub with a local vibe. We popped in for lunch on our way from Ilfracombe to Exeter. Food was nice but the service was 10/10. There is a separate vegan menu and some gluten free options. Owner and staff were super friendly and helpful – they clearly understood which items were vegan/gf. Our dog had her own bowl of sausage with sides and gravy (not vegan), and we said hello to the two beautiful resident golden retrievers. Overall a lovely visit – would recommend.
